Help and questions

Short answers about the register and checking documents.

Institutions and programmes

What does “approved” mean?

An institution that appears on this register has been approved by NBTE. Approval of the institution is separate from accreditation of each programme, so always open the record and check the programmes you care about.

What do Active, Expires in … and Expired mean?

Active: the accreditation end date is more than 90 days away.

Expires in …: the end date is within 90 days.

Expired: the end date has passed. Ask the institution for its latest NBTE letter and verify it on the Verify page.

What are streams?

A stream is a group of students admitted for a programme. The record shows how many streams NBTE has approved and the number of students allowed in each, where NBTE has recorded them.

I cannot find an institution. What should I do?

Try one distinctive word of its name, or search by town or state. If it is still missing, ask the institution for its NBTE approval letter and verify the letter.

Verifying documents

Where is the verification code?

Scan the QR code on the document, or paste the link it opens, on the Verify page. The code is the last part of that link.

What does “Valid temporary approval” mean?

NBTE has issued a temporary letter that is still within its validity period, and the final signed letter is pending. When the period ends, the page says the temporary approval has expired.

The page says “not found”. Is the document fake?

It means NBTE has no record matching that code. Check that you entered it exactly. If it still is not found, treat the document with caution and contact NBTE.
